HB local and HBHS senior Christian Saenz did it again. With a second-place finish at last weekend's NSSA Open season, he clinched his second consecutive season title. The last time this happened? Way before the internet when three-time world champ Tom Curren did it in 81/82. Next up for Saenzy: his first Open Men's National Title. Event starts June 16 -- be sure to cheer him on.
Special Surfboard Design Note: Saenzy clinched his title riding a Hurley-shaped "secret weapon."

Christian Saenz hangs around southern california then goes to oz
Been a long fun month for me. at first after scoring some late winter surf, a couple nssa comps came around. I ended up winning event 9 in the open season in pumping surf at creek. the week after that was the nssa states and really enjoyed doing that event it was a differnt vibe because it a team event and its my last year in school so i was gonna try to do my best. I ended up winning that event as well and it was really nice to win in front of the home crowd with everyone coming down to support me. Right after the comp I ended up goin to australia with the huntington high surf team. we stayed and hung out around bells for the beginning of the contest and got to see brett compete and support him. After that we ended up going to sydney and got to stay with my friend max weston in avalon. I had such a great time gettin to stay with such a great family and surf some different spots like narrabean and experience a different lifestyle for a few weeks. we even went to the zoo to check out some animals and do some out of the ordinary stuff and it was an awesome experience. now im home just goin to school, trying to get some boards all dialed in, and getting some photos. great to be home surfing with friends and having some home cooked meals.
alright enough reading for you
go surfing,
saenzy

Christian saenz wins 2 contests over the weekend
Last weekend while everyone was in santa cruz I surfed the explorer in huntington. The waves were great, some of the best pier ive seen in a while, and i ended up winning 2 contests, explorer event 3 and 4. ended up getting 2 10 point rides throughout the contest. Here is the story fron Janice, "Explorer Men’s division leader Christian Saenz was in devastating form at his home break, especially on Saturday where he dropped two perfect 10 scores. The much-focused Saenz won Saturday’s event #4 final and then continued to dominate Southside’s “Pier Bowl” lefts on Sunday where he claimed another victory in the event #3 make-up."

Christian Saenz featured in the OC Register surfing HB's last great swell
Here is a shot that just came out in the OC Register. This day was really fun and I actually saw some of the Hurley boys leaving when I showed up. Stoked to get some coverage in the paper — it was a great surprise! —Christian Saenz

Christian wins for the second time in a week
It's been a great two weeks of surfing for me. Last week I won my first event of the season in the explorer and this week I won the NSSA Open Mens on southside of the Huntington Beach Pier. I won every heat in both of the contest something I've never achieved before. The waves were small but I have this great Timmy Patterson 5'7" rising sun and the board went amazing. This was my first time to win 2 events in two weekends. I'm stoked to have won the contest against guys that surf so well. Conner Coffin has been surfing amazing and he's really hard to get a win over so I'm stoked I won with him in the contest.
Thanks,
Christian Saenz
Getting off to a good start in HB
The Saenz boys were frothing to get back into the contest season. After a great summer I was actually stoked for school to start. When school starts all the NSSA comps are running up and down the coast of California. This was the 2nd explorer event and I was really looking forward to surf some fun waves at the contest in huntington. This weekend was different though, I won and my younger brother Jake won also! This was my first season win and my brothers first win in his career. We are stoked to have shared such a great weekend together and will always look back on it with fond memories. Not only did we both win the contest but also got NSSA surfer of the week together. For more check www.saenzy.blogspot.com
Thanks,
christian saenz

Madness at HB
The contest hasnt even started and its all ready packed down here at Huntington Beach. It feels great to be at home going into this event in my backyard! After a great week and a half at bali with the Hurley boys Im feeling excited to get into contest mode. The contest should be held in contestable waves and it looks like its picking up! Should be a great event and im feeling confident going into the comp. Come support all the Hurley boys!

Going out in style at the Hurley True Perfomance House. Video: Tom Aiello
Well, the Hurley True Performance House is cleared out and the crew is on their way home. But Bali '09 was memorable for the Hurley family. A good solid, run of swells everywhere from the Bukit to Canggu. Strike missions to places like the Telos. Local contests, beach cleanups and good time for a solid six weeks. Special thanks to all of our Bali friends who made our stay so enjoyable. Stay tuned for the full Bali 09 story this fall, and we'll see you again next season.
