Insight into his very first submission for Taylor Steele
Looking at your section now and stacking it up against the competition, are you satisfied with it?
CONNER COFFIN: Well, all of the parts are really, really impressive! It was interesting to see the variety of people that made a part. I was blown away by some of the surfing in them. I am stoked on our part but time will tell if it can make the cut. I feel like there is definitely a lot of room for improvement.
What was the hardest thing about making this part for Innersection?
Hmmmm. Waves are always a challenge. I would say the hardest part was trying to find a song to work. That was a complete and total nightmare.
How long did it take and how involved were you in the edit?
I wouldn't know how long the editing took because I didn't sit there with Ryan while he did it. Once he had a first cut done, I watched it and gave him my feedback, but not once did I sit there while he edited. He likes to do his own thing.
Is dance/electronica the new go-to track for surf vids?
NO!!! We tried to bring a bit of a different song into the mix. That is what I miss most about older surf films was the sick sound tracks with bands like Pennywise and Offspring. Rock and Punk are always going to get me pumped.
What's your favorite clip in your part?
I think that my favorite clip is the grab rail carve towards the end.
Who helped make your part possible?
So many people! My sponsors played a huge role making our trip to Mexico possible and of course Ryan played the biggest role. Without him I would still be scratching my head trying to figure out how to get clips! He is the man and has pretty much become something like an older brother to me. My parents make everything possible. Can't thank them enough for everything that they do. There are so many more that those few barely scratch the surface.
If you had a campaign slogan, what would it be?
HAHA! I don't know! Something involving not leaving too many bad comments on our video.
Go here and let the world know that Conner belongs in the Top 5.
Four Hurley riders gunning for the Top 5 on Innersection.tv
Taylor Steele's new video concept, Innersection, currently has its second round of submissions posted and Hurley guys are all over it. Here's how Innersection works: over the course of the year, dozens of top surfers — both known and unknown — post their two-minute "parts" to Innersection.tv. Those parts are then praised, bashed and voted on, to be considered for the "Final Cut." At the end of the two-week voting period, a Top Five will go on to be a part of Taylor's next big film. It's a great idea that's already capturing the imaginations of forward-thinking surfers and filmmakers the world over.
Four of those surfers are Hurley family members, and they've been deep in the woodshed the past couple of months making the best video possible. All that hard work is now live on the site, and they need your help. Here's the lineup and links for each video. Also, stay tuned for interviews from each guy on the making of their part.
1. Pete Devries: an all-coldwater shredfest in and around the rugged Vancouver Island. Pete's video stands out big time and is the current leader. Go here to watch and vote.
2. Brett Simpson: Brett and Hurley's Tom Aiello spent two months in Oz putting his part together and the results are amazing. Slick-edited with World Tour-caliber surfing, Brett needs your vote to push it into the Top 5. Go here to vote.
3. Evan Geiselman: EG goes for it both in and out of the water, with a classic skit and some huge, signature air reverses. Evan also shows that he's not afraid to pull in. Go here to vote.
4. Conner Coffin: At only 16 years of age, Coffin is one of the younger Innersection candidates. But his rail surfing is well beyond his years, as his is choice in music. Coffin has the best song of the entire bunch. Go here and let the world know he belongs in the Top 5.
This is rally time. Forward this to your friends. Lean on your social networks. Tell your Internet-savvy grandma. The more votes, the better and you can vote for all of 'em. In our eyes, they all deserve 10 stars.

Our future world leaders make an impact at the Oakley Pro Junior
Evan Geiselman doesn't mind taking chances. And in his quarterfinal heat today against Gabriel Medina and Granger Larsen, he decided to go big or go home. His first couple of attempts? He came up empty with botched frontside air attempts. His third? A huge air reverse off the main peak, a series of combos, plus an another air as an exclamation point. The result: a 9.5, the heat win and a trip to the semis.
"Gabriel (Medina) went crazy in his first heat and I didn't really have the best opener and I just got mad," Geiselman said, who's leading the ASP North America Pro Junior ratings right now. "Then I saw that I was surfing against Gabriel and I thought, 'alright, I'm going to have to do some pretty big stuff,' and that's what I did. Luckily I kept getting those lefts and it just worked out. I knew I was going to have to do big airs if I was going to compete with those guys."
Conner Coffin took a more even-handed approach with solid, all-rail surfing throughout the event. "My first round heat this morning was gnarly too," Coffin said. "The whole contest is so gnarly because it's a small field and all of the international juniors are here. Every heat out here seems like it could be a final, so I'm stoked to have made the Semifinals."
Evan and Conner: opposite ends of the draw, and looking solid for 1 and 2 at the Oakley Pro Junior. Check back here tomorrow for more from our guys from the NIke 6.0 Lowers Pro.
Also, stay tuned for their submissions on Taylor Steele's Innersection. They're going to blow you away.
