Hurley Team does well in the mush
A fun weekend down in jupiter for the fall classic. Team riders cheyne cottrell, oliver kurtz , mikey detemple , and myself attended the contest. The first day was about as bad as it could be. knee high waves breaking right on the beach with rocks everywhere. All of us somehow got through the first round. The next day was at least ridable with waist high mushy windswell. Cheyne surfed really well for it being small and barely got knocked out in the semi-finals. mikey got 3rd in the longboard finals and i got last in the mens final. i just couldn't find a wave in the 25 minute finale. It was a great turnout for the event, with bands, a bikini contest, hot girls everywhere, and a awesome beer tent going on at all times.

Scotty Stopnik checks in
Myself, Mikey Detemple, Jake Burghart and Kassia Meador took off from New York city to Your Beach, Maine to hang out with the people over at Grain Surfboards and film for Mikey's new film and shred the seven seas of Maine.
If you've never checked Grain Surfboards out, go do it now. Built from all natural wood similar to the way a boat is built. I ended up doing a 4'8" paipo copy kneeboard that works way better as a surfboard. Mikey is bulding a 5'0" Simmons-influenced twin fin, Kassia took the all classic 5'4" twin fin and as for Jake he shreds harder than all of us and built some hand plant bodysurfing boards. We scored a few unreal days here and have a week left here. The water is cold, the people are friendly and vibes are good.
I'll keep you people posted on the days events.—Scotty
Scotty Stopnik and Mikey DeTemple visit the Grain factory in Maine. Stay tuned for more from the Sliders' Right Coast tour this week.

Back in the water and winning
At my last checkup my doctor said I could do some "light surfing" the first week of September. It was the last week of August, and I was getting antsy. The ECSC was just a few days ago and I was feeling up to doing it. 3 weeks after heart surgery, and a week before I was supposed to surf, I paddled out in the first heat. Then 3 heats more until I made the final of Pro Longboard.
To say the least, I was pretty excited. Just 10 days earlier I wasn't even able to lift my arms over my head. I got a few fun waves and ended up winning the contest. To top it all off it was my birthday. Awesome weekend.
Here's a few shots from my winning waves and the final day.

Being dry docked during the Atlantic's Hurricane season is never fun.
But sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Surfing on Long Island's east end, about ten days ago, my chest started to feel a little funny. My pacemaker had migrated and a portion was sticking through my muscle. I don't generally mess around, but the forecast was so good for the next week and I felt fine. I surfed every day, all day, for 5 days strait and had a blast. I called my doctor back in FL and told me to fly home so he could have a look.
Turns out that the pacer ripped completely through my chest muscle and was exposed in my epidermis. A very dangerous place for an electronic device that keeps my heart beating and me conscious.
I told my doctor that I had a pretty busy next month or so, could we fix it in.....say December? He kinda laughed at me and said I was going in at 8am the next morning.
No big deal. I have gone through 4 pacemakers and over 40 years worth of battery power in the last 6 years. Something needed to change this time. An open heart surgeon did the operation this time. Being an avid kite boarder himself, he knew what kind of beating the body of a surfer would take. He came up with the idea of pulling my peck muscle off my chest and anchoring the pacemaker to one of my ribs with a synthetic material they use to make artificial arteries out of. Kind of a first, the surgery was successful after 4 hours.
Here I am, a little over a week later and feeling pretty decent. I'm running around the house, riding my bike and bouncing off the walls watching the weather channel. Every day is getting easier and I'm getting more and more movement in my arm.
Look out, Mikey6.0 will be back in the water at the end of the month. More updates to come!

Asher, Mikey, and Evan give some surf lessons to a lucky group of raffle winners...
On Saturday August 1st, Hurley teamed up with Dillards Tampa Division to host a free Surf Camp for qualifying raffle winners. With a wide range of ages, from 5 years of age to 25, campers came out to Upham Beach in St. Pete to enjoy a free day of Surf Camp lead by Hurley pro surfers, Asher Nolan, Mikey DeTemple, and Evan Geiselman. Most of the campers participating had never even been on a surf board, so it was super rewarding to see these guys pumped about just getting to stand up on a board. Kids and adults were stoked to be taught by some Hurley pro surfers and even more excited to be pushed into some waves by these guys. Asher, Mikey and Evan were definitely heroes for the day.
We started off with a morning surf session followed by an autograph signing and photo-taking op and then finished the day off with round 2 of afternoon lessons. We all had a great day with everyone who came out, thanks to everyone who participated!
Attached are some photos to better recap the day. Thanks again for everyone who helped makes this event happen.

Mikey DeTemple's feel-good surf flick stokes out hundreds
It's a crazy time at Hurley headquarters right now. The US Open is days away from happening, and with Hurley being the title sponsor the event it's all hands on deck. That didn't stop these wonderful people from throwing a rear-kicking
Picaresque premiere.
It was a real last-minute decision, but Brandon, Scotty and Robby all came through into making it an awesome night. We had 40 pizzas, tons of drinks and Carson selling DVDs. It was a pretty packed house with more than half of the cast in the film in attendance. along with another screaming 200 people including Paul Gomez sitting front and center.
This was loudest premier yet, with people hooting and screaming throughout the entire flick. It was pretty amazing to have some of these people that support you so much to sit and watch 41 minutes of what really was the last two years of my life.
Again, I just want to thank everyone at Hurley — you guys really are like a family. And a huge thanks to everyone who came out to support the film and everyone who was a part of it. — Mikey DeTemple

Chiba to Tokyo. It never stops!
This must have been the longest day of my life. Up at 6am to surf Chiba, on the road to Tokyo to run around the city all day, then to our good friend Luli's club Le Baron De Paris to show the film. And, of course some live music from BLORR. Check the photos!
