The local Santa Barbara groms came out in full force on Sunday as they slapped high fives and showed off in the water for Yadin Nicol, Conner Coffin, Beau Foster, Pete Devries and Dane Zaun. With small surf and the fun Hurley INT soft boards, some serious silliness was going down – everything from board transfers to backflips. The judges sure had their hands full with the talented group of 9 finalists, but in the end it was little Liam Osborne who stole the show and took home the first-place finish and new GoPro camera, Phantom Create boardshorts, Schwinn bicycle, Spy sunglasses and other goodies from FreeStyle, Mophie, Tranworld, Stance, Watermans and Futures. There was some seriously good surfing going down from all the competitors as they battled for a spot in the bonus round. Not to be outdone by the boys and their above-the-lip surfing was Eden Edwards, who made the final and held it down for the girls with a big late drop and well-surfed wave all the way through to the sand, which ended up earning her a first-place finish and a new GoPro camera, Phantom Create beachrider shorts, Schwinn bicycle, Spy sunglasses and other goodies from FreeStyle, Mophie, Tranworld, Stance, Watermans and Futures. The RMSS tour arrived at the West Coast just in time for a solid south swell at a secluded stretch of beach in the Mill Valley area. On hand to take on some of the biggest and best waves a RMSS event has ever seen were 35 local groms and Hurley pros, Pete Devries, Beau Foster, Dane Zaun and Kaden Panesi. Things really got going in the final where event winner, Ben Binford, threw down an impressive and dangerous headstand into a shorebreak barrel, which ended up earning him a new GoPro camera, Phantom Create boardhsorts, Schwinn bicycle, and other goodies from Spy, FreeStyle, Mophie, Tranworld, Stance, Watermans and Futures. Stop number 22 of the RMSS tour landed us in the beautiful town of Grand Haven, Michigan. On hand to meet us at the beach were 70 of the town's best young wave riders. The kids were so fired up to surf with Pat O'Connell, Beau Foster and the rest of the Hurley crew that a 48 degree water temperature and flat conditions did nothing to slow them down. We saw some great rides from all the competitors as the final bonus round saw some front flips, backflips, board transfers, summersaults and headstands -- it was quite the show. Taking home the big win and new GoPro camera, Phantom Create boardshorts, Spy sunglasses, Stance socks, Futures fins, Mophie iPhone case and other goodies was Justin Wiggens, who threw down a breakdance spinning headstand right into the sand. Congrats to everyone on a job well done and thanks to the local community for all the wonderful support. Can't wait to see you next year! The RMSS Summer Tour has headed west! Traverse City, the first of three Great Lakes stops, made for yet another great day of surfing and fun in the water -- very un-salty water. After warming up with a few beach games, all the first-time surfers were up and riding by the end of the day, taking it to the Lake Michigan ripples. Thanks to everyone for coming out and for showing up Beau Foster and Pat O'Connell, who were struggling in the ankle high surf. Stop number 20 of the RMSS tour made a pitstop in the quant, coastal town of Hampton, New Hampshire. On hand to meet up with the Phantom bus and the Hurley pros were 70 of the state's best young surfers who had a great time testing out all the Hurley boards and showing off for the big crowd of friends and family on the beach. As the tide pushed everyone back to the seawall, the final bonus round competitors treated us to the best 15 minutes of surfing we have seen in a while. The judges had their hands full as the kids were throwing down front flips, upside-down-fins-first takeoffs, fist pumps, shakas, headstands and board transfers in an effort to take home the big win and ultimate New Hampshire bragging rights. Congrats to everyone on a job well done and thanks to the local community for all the wonderful support! Read on for results and click here for the download link to all of the day's photos.
