Rip My Shredstick - New York

Well, you know what they say. When it rains it pours and that’s exactly what it did on the day of Hurley’s Rip My Shred Stick New York. With great surf the day before there was hope for another beautiful day. But we woke up to find grey skies and by the time we were at the beach assessing the conditions it started to rain. Seriously, by the time we were back in the cars it was coming down like a monsoon surely canceling the beach event. So what did we do? Call the whole thing off. Not a chance.
Mark the owner of Babylon’s Post Office Café was down on the beach and would never let such a thing happen. No surf, go party. He allowed us to move the night event up several hours and have a great party for the kids all afternoon. All the kids that showed were stoked to have such a party. I mean how often can a grom say he spent the afternoon watching surf vids and having lunch with Timmy Curran, Brett Simpson, and Aamion Goodwin.
Hurley would also never disappoint excited kids so everyone who attended received bags with t’s, videos, stickers, and other goodies. Also, one lucky grom found a Nixon tide watch in his bag. Other lucky kids found Nike 6.0 mutants in their bags and will receive a new pair of Nike shoes.
The Post Office Café delivered the goods providing an insane lunch for all of us. It may have been the best food on Long Island. Not to mention Charlie Bunger owner of Bunger Surf and Sport in Babylon stopped by to give all the kids $10 give certificates for the shop. What a gesture!
Despite the rain it was a great day of fun and laughter with every kid being a winner. I would like to thank all who attended, Mark and Jen from the Post Office Café, Charlie Bunger, and the Hurley crew(Timmy, Brett, Aamion, Saxon, Brandon, Justin, Pete, Max, and Lucas) for showing all of us that no matter what the conditions are like there is always fun to be had.
