At my last checkup my doctor said I could do some "light surfing" the first week of September.  It was the last week of August, and I was getting antsy.  The ECSC was just a few days ago and I was feeling up to doing it.  3 weeks after heart surgery, and a week before I was supposed to surf, I paddled out in the first heat.  Then 3 heats more until I made the final of Pro Longboard.  

To say the least, I was pretty excited.  Just 10 days earlier I wasn't even able to lift my arms over my head.  I got a few fun waves and ended up winning the contest.  To top it all off it was my birthday.  Awesome weekend.
