Bali is the best place in the world...
It's drawing to the last few days of my Bali trip. Unfortunately I wasn't able to join the other Hurley boys over here when they scored earlier this year. But I'm sure I scored just as hard!
My trip begun boarding a flight from South Australia, Bali bound! I had a pair of jeans and flanno on and as I stepped out of the plane, the humid & hot Bali air hit me hard in the face!
So I lost the jeans and the flanno, threw on a pair of Phantom boardies to kick around in, jumped into a car, and went straight to my place of stay.
Day one of the Billabong Pro Junior @ Keramas started the next day, and the boys were expecting arguably one of the best swells to hit Keramas this year. But as I walked up the beaten track of Keramas that morning it was far from pretty. Howling onshore winds, 2 foot dribble, and rounds 1 and 2 were sent out in the water.
Day two was a little different, everyone kept rambling about this amazing swell that was suppose to hit. I was a later heat in the day, so I left Legian at 9:30am, threw my board in my scooter racks and hit the road solo. I navigated my way through the cluttered Bali traffic from one side of the island to the other. As I arrived in the car park I can hear hooting and whistling. I walked up the path and stood on the shore amazed...... 6-8 foot beasts were grinding through Keramas and Red, White, Yellow and Blue in the line up! Not a breath of wind and dirty chocolate water. Buckets of froth.....as for I am about to surf the best waves we have had for a contest ever! Luckily enough for me I got a few monsters and Keramas with 3 other guys out. Locked in a 9.8 and a 8 in one heat, 9.00 and 8.5 in another, a handful of 8's and 7's in the following heats and a snapped board in my last.
In my last couple of days, I've just been driving round the streets on my scooter, bartering with the local shop clerks, having a few cold bintangs and keeping an eye out for some girls and of course... surfing perfect waves.
Im home on Saturday and then I'm off to Japan on Tuesday!
So, I'm off to enjoy my last two days in paradise.
Later!
