Musician, Davey Warsop, gives a little insight to his joining the Hurley family

I have never found anything I do to be easy. Music is the only thing I’ve ever truly understood. It’s all I Know and can do. It’s my passion and my obsession. I believe it may be my only hope. I am not great at it and I have to work pretty hard just to do ok. But if I wasn’t supposed to devote my life to making it then I think I read the signs wrong.

I am a songwriter, born on June 18th 1982 as a Gemini and raised in a town called Bromsgrove, a suburb of Birmingham, England. I spent my pre-teen years watching my older brother’s skateboard videos, becoming familiar with images of Californian streets, schools and infamous skate-spots. At the same time my ears were being exposed to the sounds of 80's U.S. hardcore bands that would often frequent the soundtracks. Meanwhile my dad would play me records by local legends Led Zeppelin, as well as Thin Lizzy, The Police, Squeeze and The Jam. By the age of ten, I had discovered two films that I became obsessed by. On a daily basis I would arrive home from school to gaze in awe as Michael J. Fox played Chuck Berry songs in the 80’s classic “Back To The Future”. Or observe my first real insight into band politics, foul language and 60’s soul music, with my copied VHS of independant Irish film, The Commitments. It wasn’t long after this that I witnessed a live performance by Dinosaur Jr on early 90's, late night, British T.V. show “The Word”… It was about this time that I decided I had to make some music of my own.

I didn’t realize back then, but all the above was going to make a huge impact on my life. Sometimes I wonder if these key moments and key influences that we're all subjected to (in our own personal ways) as children, happen just by chance, or for a reason? These days it’s beginning to feel like I’ve been following a path since day one (or maybe I'm just on 'shrooms?). I am currently staying in Costa Mesa, California. I spent the last 3 years touring internationally, fronting my band Beat Union. This is how I met all the amazing people at Hurley who continue to support and believe in me to this day.

At present Beat Union is taking a little break and I am working on some songs that will be performed at the Hurley U.S. open in Huntington Beach on Saturday, 25th July. I am also co-writing with various bands and songwriters, while spending any other time working on lots of new music of my own that will eventually be recorded and launched by Hurley. Watch this space!
