The 2011 US Open of Surfing, presented by Nike, Hurley and Converse wrapped up yesterday. With 1 million people in attendance throughout the week, free live music featuring MGMT, Jimmy Eat World and others, a Walk the Walk National Championship, and the world's best surfers battling it out in great HB surf, it's pretty clear that 2011 US Open of Surfing will go down in the history books as the greatest action sports event of all time -- that is until we make it even better next year. So...you've mastered the Macarena, the Humpty, the Cabbage Patch (not ringing a bell?) and the Dougie (that's more like it). But can you Phantom? Seems like our Walk the Walk friends at Grossmont High School have come up with the best thing since Hammer pants. Check it out. And if you want to see the lyrics, just click into the extended story.
And officially breaking websites (at least that's what I.T. told us). Since Walk The Walk went LIVE on Monday, the increased traffic from kids coming to Hurley.com to vote for their schools almost killed our site. It's a good problem to have. And we dig the school spirit, so keep those votes coming. Said Walk The Walk Coordinator, Jordan Dowty: "We have 18 talented schools in the US and Canada participating in this year's viral competition. They're all vying for a spot in the big show at the US Open in August. Their first video challenge "Show Your DNA" is LIVE on Hurley.com now. Take a minute to watch their videos and vote for your favorite."
