What do surfing, old motorcycles and a victory dinner at McDonald's have in common? Well, not a lot, but somehow all those things made their way into Scotty Stopnik's 192-hour (8 days, for those of you counting) trip to Japan this past week. Scotty got to know the happy people on the other side of the Pacific while surfing some fun waves in Chiba and Shizunami. He placed second in a contest only to be rewarded with -- you guessed it -- a glorious trip to the golden arches. Do they serve Kobe burgers at the McD's in Japan? Check out the pictures Scotty took with his "junk old film camera" (they're actually really cool) here.
Forty seconds of good-natured mayhem with resident trouble maker Scotty Stopnik.
Trying to kill that last hour before the weekend? We rounded up a week's worth of images from our cool friends over at Captain Fin, Crude Behavior and Cycle Zombies who like a lot of the same stuff we do. We picked out our faves, so the hard work's already done. Should help you waste a solid five minutes. Keep working for the weekend.
We decided to steal some cool photos from our friends Mitch Abshire, Mark Choiniere and Scotty Stopnik. The guys run some pretty sweet blogs, so be sure to check them out for yourself — the surfy Captain Fin Company, neat photography-filled Crude Behavior and grungy motorcycle experts Cycle Zombies.
Scotty Stopnik has been on a tear lately. Landing two magazine covers, catching fun Fall combo swells at home and gettin' weird on all sorts of motorcycles. To follow along with the spontaneous life of Scotty, click through for some photos and head over to his blog, Cycle Zombies.
Mark Choiniere just rediscovered this lost video of the guys surfing a fun winter day at Churches. What to watch for: artsy intro, lot's of nose-riding, soul arches and sand dune surfing. Check it out here then make your way over to Mark's blog -- crudebehavior.net -- for some more cool stuff to look at.
Mitch Abshire of Captain Fin Co. is finishing up his latest masterpiece. Featuring the likes of Scotty and Turkey Stopnik, Dane Reynolds, Alex Knost and others, Mitch's film looks like it's going to be a keeper. Be Cool Man is expected to release later this month. Until then click into the story for behind the scenes pictures of Scotty and Turkey, and take a quick peek at the slightly odd/ very intriguing trailer here.
Photographer Nick LaVecchia documents the making of Mikey DeTemple's new film, Sight|Sound. Cruise on over to surfermag.com to peruse the stills. Or, if you're more the moving picture type, peep this one wave clip from Mikey in Nicaragua. Keep an eye out for our favorite Cycle Zombie, the always original, Scotty Stopnick. N joy.
In the last two weeks, Mark Choiniere (pronounced sh-wan-yay if you're feeling fancy) traveled to an obscure part of the Amazon and back again, hung with Duane Peters and opened a new photo exhibit in Laguna. And since the tireless documentation of everything you do is sort of part of the gig when you're a photographer, we were able to pull a handful of stuff that tickled from his blog over the past 15 days, and thought it might have the same effect on you.
We came across this photo of Scotty's garage on Mitch Abshere's site, captainfincompany.com/, and wanted to share. Pretty epic quiver he's stockpiling over there. To see the full image, click here.
