The Volcom Damn Am skate contest took place this weekend, just down the street from Hurley in Costa Mesa. Curren Caples had an impressive ride, and with a frontside wall ride, frontside noseblunt down the the hand rail and a 180 nosegrind, he took 1st place in the overall competition. Check out the video here. Featured products: Original tee, Corman pant.

We've been talking about Skate the Coast and B4BC - the charities aimed at raising breast cancer awareness and funding research for a cure. Skaters typically take an 18-mile cruise down the coast of South Bay, Los Angeles, but as some of you know, our friend Curren Caples recently skated over an unidentified object and sustained a bit of an injury… of the compound wrist fracture variety. Instead of saying, "I'll catch you next year, B4BC," Curren went above and beyond by organizing an event of his own -- he invited kids up to Oxnard to skate with him and his friends so they could participate, too. Louie Lopez, Moose, and what looks like about 87 pizzas were all in attendance, as well as some cool gear from Curren's sponsors for all the kids who came out for a good cause. You can check out Curren (who unfortunately had to play gimp cheerleader and hang on the sidelines) and the video of the event here.

Curren Caples is a gangly thing, isn't he? Yes, that mess of limbs and fiberglass is normally seen on wheels, four of them, attached to a skate deck to be exact. But Curren proves time and time again that he could just as easily be on both the skate and surf side of things. Don't miss Curren's latest foray into the world of the Vimeo surf clip here

In Alli Skate's latest Step By Step feature, Curren Caples does a little show and tell with frontside kickflips. Curren says it's best to start with front ollies on tranny and kickflips on flat, then work to combine them for some serious fun. We were going to give it a try at the Hurley skatepark, but figured broken wrists might prevent us from writing this blog post...

We talk a lot about the Aces, the Yadins and the Evan Gs - but let's not forget about the little people (read: Hurley groms) -- who, by the looks of the photos below, are bound to grow up into the aforementioned Aces, Yadins and Evans. So check out the pictures below and the video (over at Surfing Mag) of our up-and-coming and coming-in-hot breed of whipper snappers as they tear their way through Australia, featuring Curren Caples (our amphibious team rider), Kai Hing, Jake Marshall Hiroto Ohara, Sammy Pupo, Darcy Crump, Kaito Ohashi and Sandon Whittaker. A new skate video featuring Curren Caples, Jack Fardell and Ryder Lawson around the Sydney and Newcastle areas just dropped. We highly suggest you give it a look by clicking right here. What to watch for: everything (especially Jack's lengthy boardslide at the end of the clip).

The biggest concrete bowl event in the Southern Hemisphere took place in Bondi Beach, Sydney, NSW last weekend. The world's best pros were on hand to put on a show for the 1000+ people who showed up to watch. In the mix, were Hurley skaters Jack Fardell and Curren Caples (pictured above), who both competed in the Pro division, and also 8-year-old Keegan Palmer, who mixed it up in the Dew Am Jam. Jack ended up placing an impressive 7th while Curren finished in a very respectable 11th. Click through for a few photos from the comp.

Last week, Curren Caples and friends celebrate his day of birth at the Vans skatepark in Orange. And lucky for all of us, Skateboarder Magazine was there to document the whole thing, which can be seen here. What to watch for: a face smash into cake, tandem powerslides and Greyson Fletcher stealing the show on the mini ramp.

Curren Caples just got back from Hawaii where he scored some fun surf and hung out at the Banzai Skatepark across from the Hurley house. It's crazy how good he's skating for being only 16 (a fresh 16 that is — happy birthday, Curren!). In this skate session from last weekend, the soon-to-be 16-year-old wisely decides to charge the Banzai Skatepark instead of the maxing outer reefs across the street. Maybe he'll wax up the big wave gun next year. Video: PK

We all know Curren kills it on dry land with his skateboard. But did you know he can surf just as good? Check this little edit from a small day around his Ventura home right here. Kid's got game.
