This past weekend at Trestles, Rachael Tilly won the WSA West Coast Season Championship for both Girls Longboard Under 18 and Girls Longboard Under 14. If it hasn't already, it's safe to say her trophy case will hit capacity sometime very soon. Way to go, Rachael!
Hurley's Codey Levesque is good at most everything. Skating, BMX, high-fiving groms, holding it down in the Hurley Employee store -- you name it, the guy's got it dialed. Above, you can see him on four wheels while hanging at a local park this past weekend. And below, you can find the two-wheeled version.
Forget the sombrero and the mariachi band, Sergie Ventura had himself a different kind of fiesta on Cinco de Mayo. Sergie was invited to, and won, the Skate For A Cause bowl jam presented by The Sheckler Foundation. The contest benefited A Skate, a foundation which allows autism to be a part of our social world through skateboarding. They hold clinics for children with autism at no cost to the families, give grants to children with autism for skateboard gear, as well as promote awareness and educate families about the skateboard industry. Congrats to Sergie on the win and for being part of such a good cause. For more info on A Skate, visit their site.
The wait is over. Hot Water Music is back and with a new record, Exister, to prove it. Twenty-one days in the studio resulted in 13 brand new songs which focus on their live energy, giving fans fast, more direct and aggressive music. “There was a certain kind of confidence when making it,” singer/guitarist Chris Wollard says, “the band wasn’t second guessing anything. We weren’t worrying about how it was going to be perceived. We just let it be and helped it be as good as it could.” Exister comes out tomorrow, May 15, on Rise Records. Get it here.
If you want to know what our guys are up to, like, right now, all you have to do is head over to Stab Magazine. Brett Simpson is featured in Surfline's Sequence of the Week — and boy is it a doozy. It's the kind of sequence that makes you stop and really appreciate the fact that we have such nice cameras. Surfline's viewer is also top-notch, letting you see each click of the camera and in turn you really get to know Brett's layback hack. Personally, we like to blur our eyes and slide the mouse really fast, back and forth over the sequence. To see what we're talking about go here.
Way back in March we took part in the Student Television Network convention by asking students from across the country to make a Hurley commercial. And for the past two weeks we've shown you the commercials that we found to be our personal favorites. This week we're sharing Dos Pueblo's stop animation masterpiece. Press play and marvel at how many shots it took to make this video.
Remember growing up and there was that one really cool family down the street? The one where the mom always had the good snacks: Oreos, Dunkaroos (R.I.P), fruit rollups, etc. They probably had a trampoline and you could stay up late and watch movies at their house.Well our family of Featherweights is pretty much the same thing. You've got the cool older sister who will let you wear her make up, the Mesh Maxi. Then there's the up-for-anything trouble maker, the mesh tank. Then you've got the other Featherweight tees and some flirty dresses. They're a colorful family and tons of fun. You've got to meet them, so keep reading for full introductions.
Five questions. One Curren Caples. Curren is featured in this week's My Five on Alli Sports. What we learned: we won't be accepting dinner invites from him anytime soon (he thinks Top Ramen counts as a meal). Watch it here!
He'll make you laugh, he'll make you cry. He'll let you watch him get taken out by an avalanche and then pee in a plastic bottle as he rehabs. Yep, Erik Roner has a new webisode out; cracking jokes like always, despite breaking his femur. You can also count on another crazy stunt from his toddler, Oskar, who makes his first wingsuit jump out of a plane. Guess crazy runs in the family. Watch the latest Roner Vision here.
