Soccer sensation Neymar Junior is teaming up with Jon Rose and Waves for Water for an amazing new project in Brazil. Thirsty to Win, or Sede de Vencer, will follow the Confederation's Cup in Brazil, stopping in each of the cities and bring filtration systems to the neighboring communities in need. Although the waves were waist to head high in Hermosa Beach last weekend, it was definitely overhead for a few local mini-groms. Over 50 kids from the South Bay came down to the Hermosa Pier, joined by Dane Zaun, Brad Ettinger, Rachael Tilly and Hula Hartley (who was disguised as a swamp monster at one point). There was surfing, there was corn dogging, there was a dance-off and there was a grom dog pile on top of Dane Zaun. Needless to say, Hermosa kids know how to have a good time.

Tandem rides on the Riviera Paddle Surf board, perfect kid-sized waves (2-3ft peaks) and the bellyflop wipeout of the day winning a more than two years worth of Hi-Chews (don't blame us for the dentist bill) were just a few highlights of Rip My Shred Stick Santa Monica. About 60 LA kids came out for the event, which we hosted with ZJ Boarding House in the Ocean Park neighborhood.

Whilst in Rio we put our time to good use: we held an impromptu Rip My Shred Stick with the kids from the favelas, surfed heats, signed some autographs and had a few free surfs. Somewhere during this time, Brett Simpson got ahold of a video camera, and cinematic greatness ensued with the birth of "Simpo Cam": wrought with classic Simpo one liners and heckling. Yep, this edition of #TOURNOTES is pure good vibes (with cameos from Occy, Mick, Kelly and Jordy) so get into it.

This year’s Hurley Pro – held at Lower Trestles on September 15th – will continue to showcase the world’s best surfers at the world’s most high-performance wave. But for the first time ever, we’re giving one of our coveted wildcard spots to you, as the 36th seed will be determined by a popular vote based on video submissions.

Here’s how it works: from May 15 to July 15, we will accept video submissions from any and every American surfer with dreams of surfing in the Hurley Pro. Our judging panel will review all submissions and then rank the top 16 candidates. From there, we will place the top 16 in a man-on-man contest bracket. Starting July 29th, we leave the voting up to you. A true People’s Choice.

So, prepare your clips or get ready to click. Either way, you’ll be part of history by choosing the first ASP World Tour wildcard surfer based entirely on popular vote.
