We managed to scrape together enough cash to send one of our people up to the Mother Ship (aka the Nike Campus) to cover the 2011 Nike Maxim Awards (we even found some room in the budget to make sure he looked the part, tuxedo t-shirt and all). And we're glad we did, because, for the first time ever, Hurley got the nod for not one, but two Maxim awards. Remember: Nike has 37,515 employees. We have slightly less than that, and we were still voted winners in two major categories -- an incredible achievement considering the numbers. The US Open of Surfing finally got its due recognition in the "Nike is a Company" category, as Jeb Siqueiros and Pat O'Connell graciously accepted for Hurley. The last we saw him, Jeb still had a firm grip on the award and we're thinking it might be the first official adornment in his all-white office.
In the "Simplify and Go" category, Hurley's H20 initiative won the Maxim as Ben Edwards took the stage and inspired at least a few hundred more clean-water couriers.
All in all, it was a huge day for Hurley at the Nike Campus.
