We've been listening to The Royalty a lot lately – and we suggest that you start too. If you're weary, get to know em' a little bit with lead vocalist Nicole Boudreau. Watch to find out how they got their name, and how they feel about playing in front of real royalty.
This year at the US Open of Surfing, local boys, Hindu Pirates opened the stage for the likes of Grouplove and White Arrows on Hurley's music night. Local photographer and a good friend of theirs, Jack Belli was there to document the band's big day. From writing a set list all the way to packing up the stage post performance, Belli got it all. We think they're really cool photos and wanted to share them with you. Read through to check them out and go to his blog to see more. Photo: Jack Belli
Hailing from El Paso, Texas we present to you – The Royalty, a retro sounding, soulful, female led band. Back in May, the band released Lovers, their first full length studio album since signing with Victory Records. And guess what, half of the album was recorded right here in Hurley Music Studios. Their music has the kind of nostalgic feel that immediately puts us in a good mood – that's why we were happy when they stopped by the studios to perform a few songs. Watch them make Bowie proud as they perform Saint Bowie – a song off their new album.
When describing the Coffin brothers, the last word we would use is conventional. Especially when it comes to their latest surf movie, Electric Wilderness. Staying true to form, the boys decided they wanted an original soundtrack for the movie to reflect none other than their original selves – because who wouldn't want brand new music, freshly tailored to the vibe of your movie? According to Conner it took just four short days for his buddies Travis and Ben to watch the movie, get inspired, write and record the songs featured. Recorded right here at Hurley music studio, take a look at this video to see a behind the scenes look at the making of the sountrack.
We're not ones to pick favorites, but we might need to change our tune, because yesterday was our favorite day (so far) down here at the US Open of Surfing. After a day of Juniors, Men's, Women's and Longboarding there was really no other way to top off the day than a free concert, literally steps from the water. Hindu Pirates, White Arrows and GROUPLOVE all provided a great soundtrack to the day and one that we'll be replaying in our headphones for a while. If you missed it, or just want to relive it, press play on this video and get happy. Video: YB
It's hard not to automatically like a band called Beach Days. And after an initial listen to their first 7" we're happy to say our expectations were met. Grab your sunglasses and go listen to "Get It Out of Your Head" and "Beach Day" (these kids really like beach days) on their Soundcloud page. Expect more from the warm and happy sounding Florida-based group soon.
Meet Surfer Blood, the guys behind our back-to-school concert series. Buying $50 worth of Hurley product at a participating retailer gets you and a friend into the secret show. For concert dates and participating retailers, check out our Rocks You Back To School page here.
Let this free download of Hindu Pirates Feel My Heart get you in the mood for their US Open performance next Thursday, August 2nd.
