Fresh off the internet presses, Danezaun.com chronicles Dane as he blocks out the pollution and failed Hollywood marriages of Los Angeles and finds some sanity in lineups in the South Bay. Check out Dane's site for sick edits (like this one) and a look into the unique life of a surfer living in a big city.
Australian Matt King's got a smooth, powerful style that bodes well for him in decent surf. Watch him put said style on display on a solid right hander (think big barrels) in this new edit from Dane Singleton.
It's common knowledge that Carissa Moore is an absolute pleasure to watch on a surfboard, which makes sense because she's also just an absolute pleasure in general. In other words, the youngest person to win a World Title (she was just eighteen!) has quickly become our favorite surfer/person/friend. Click 'Full Story' to get to know more about the girl who around the office we simply refer to as "the Hawaiian Angel."
Nick and Jake Marshall took up half of the Under 16 Final at last weekend's Arnette Cash Pot event at Seaside Reef, where Jake took top honors and Nick snagged third. Combined they took home $550, which translates into a lot of fishing gear and Mac n Cheese for the young brothers. Without further adieu, congrats, boys! Photo: Transworld SURF/Foster.
Fun fact: Hurley wasn't always a t-shirt and boardshorts company. Our brand actually traces back to Bob Hurley's surfboard shaping in Huntington Beach in the late 1970s. Fast forward 30 years, enter Lee Stacey: progressive Australian shaping icon. Bob and Lee became fast friends, and although continents and generations apart, they have loads in common… including how they are inspired. This common ground fused old-school creativity and modern digital savvy; the result was a pretty rad collection of surfboards. Get to know Lee Stacey (and see what inspires him) here.
To some it might not make sense that someone so nonsensical can make so much…sense. But there he is, Craig Stecyk III, all 6-foot and something, rambling off the longest sentences you've ever had the pleasure of hearing. It's all you can do to not pull up a chair, grab a coffee and let the man talk. If you've never had the pleasure of exchanging words with Stecyk, there's something that can help: this video from The Surfer's Journal gives a glimpse into the oddities, curiosities and snippets of history that make Craig's everyday life the most interesting piece-of-art-in-progress. He's a legend. Shop the Craig Stecyk X Hurley collection, "FIN", here.
Another Hurley Surfboard Demo went down in Huntington Beach with the Mater Dei High School Surf Team. The kids took to the water on their Hurley/Stacey/T. Patterson/Doc board of choice and turned on their A-game for the camera and Hurley's local talent Brett Simpson, AJ Collins and Taylor Pai. Brett Simpson was blown away by the surfing going on in the water and also dropped some knowledge on the kids before the end of practice: "If you make it out of the tube, you weren't deep enough." Deep thoughts from the Simpo. Read on to check the photo highlights. Photos: Derek Bahn
Brett's about to pack up and head to Australia for the start of the 2013 ASP World Tour, which kicks off on March 2nd at Snapper. But first thing's first — a chat with Peter King and a quick surf out front at Southside HB pier to make sure his equipment is working right (spoiler alert: it is.) Brett's looking good going into 2013, so stay tuned for more goodness from the hometown hero.
Last week, Hurley took home the Surf Industry Manufacturing Association (SIMA) Image Award for Boardshort of the Year for the fifth consecutive year. While the award specifically honors the the design and innovation around the Phantom, we can't help but also reflect on the larger meaning of this award. It is an award that is voted on not only by our retailers but also by our "competition" and peers in the industry. It's an award that represents the feedback and buying patterns of our consumers that reinforce the knowledge that we're making a great product. But most of all it's is a reminder of what the power of working as a team can achieve. We are incredibly humbled and honored to have received this award but most of all, we are proud to be Hurley.
It would appear that Beau Foster, the young Australian and the object of most teen girl's affection, has finally found the one for him. But don't worry, teenage girls the world over, there aren't any diamond rings in the future, because when we say "the one" we're talking about "Ando," a board shaped by Haydenshapes Surfboards. Watch Beau have way too much fun on the Ando here.
