You might not know this, but every summer we do this little event called the US Open of Surfing. It’s pretty cool…you might like it. Well anyways, it all kicks off this Saturday, July 30th. Check it out if you want. According to that Bob Hurley guy, it’s kind of a big deal. While we're gone at HB, click into this story for some cool things to look at from the interweb.
Kai Neville's follow-up to Modern Collective will premiere during the week of the Nike US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. The event promises to bring “U.S. Open-size” crowds to the streets of Surf City
We managed to scrape together enough cash to send one of our people up to the Mother Ship (aka the Nike Campus) to cover the 2011 Nike Maxim Awards (we even found some room in the budget to make sure he looked the part, tuxedo t-shirt and all). And we're glad we did, because, for the first time ever, Hurley got the nod for not one, but two Maxim awards. Remember: Nike has 37,515 employees. We have slightly less than that, and we were still voted winners in two major categories -- an incredible achievement considering the numbers. Click into the extended story to get the full report from our man at swoosh headquarters in Portland.
Hurley is beyond thrilled that Crewsy has re-upped his deal with us through 2014. We expect big things from the young buck. Read on for the details of the deal that keeps one of the best young surfers in the world repping the big H for years to come. Photo: Andrew Shield
So excited to see the lineup for the US Open of Surfing this year! The Sounds, Surfer Blood, Dead Country, Jimmy Eat World, and MGMT will all be gracing US Open stage playing free (key word FREE...we love free) shows during the event. And you can bet your bottom dollar that we will be there dancing (but really more like making awkward body movements that simulate dancing) at every single set. For your listening pleasure, we've compiled a selection of our favorite tunes from these killer bands. Scroll down to see our playlist, get your dance-party on, and kick off your summer right.
The international surf media has spoken; now it's your turn. Who should receive the final slot for this year's WPS All Stars to be honored at the Nike US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach?
