Southern California folk music superstars (which is an oxymoron — an oxymoron that they prove can exist peacefully), and good friends, The Drowning Men, recorded their song "Smile" live in the Hurley studio. Pull up a chair, throw on a denim vest and press play. You won't regret it.
Hurley Rocks You Back To School finished off the tour with an epic finale at the Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. Apparently everyone in the OC really likes to party. Maybe there is just a huge Surfer Blood fan base in this area - either way, 800 fans came out and a good time was had by all. Thanks to Honey Badgers and Hindu Pirates for making the night that much better. Click through to see all the photos.
Laguna is going to get a dose of the creeps next week at 225 Forest with the CREEPY CRUISERS art show. The show includes 75 artists and will be set to the sounds of Vooduo — a husband/wife duo (get it?) from Long Beach who play awesome Cramps-y surf garage jams about monsters and everything else freaky under the moon. Featured artists include: Bigfoot, Chase Conley, tattoo artists: Liz Miller, Nick Simich, Sara Lyons, Jodi Jones, owner of Phone Booth Gallery: Garry Booth, Monster-maker: John Ottinger, and many more. Come get weird with us, October 4th from 6-9, and yes, tricks and treats will be provided.
Hurley Rocks You Back to School is coming to a close this weekend, and we're getting a little nostalgic. Here's a look back at our second stop of the tour in Norfolk, VA, where Mike and Rosie get a little crazy (look out for Rosie's dance moves and Mike's body slam into a wall). We have one last show in Orange County, so if you missed out on the other stops, make sure you come see us this Saturday.
We're always discovering fun facts about the people we work with. Take Jennie from our art department for instance, she's in an awesome girl-punk band (she's got some serious pipes) called Bad Cop Bad Cop. The ruling: Bad Cop Bad Cop is totally badass. Press play, try not fall in love.
Look at those crazy kids! Rosie and Mike, along with Surferblood were at it again, rocking you back to school - this time in Austin, Texas. Press play to see Surferblood, with the help of local band Shivery Shakes, boot scoot boogie and two step right into the heart of Austin, Texas. The last Hurley Rocks You Back to School show is this Saturday in Santa Ana, California. Join us?
LA-based, musically-inclined (very inclined), foursome, and US Open of Surfing openers, White Arrows are taking their act to the road. They've been said to possess a "strange magic, it's hard not to picture a mystic dance floor hidden in the midst of a tropical rainforest" (source: their ReverbNation page). So if that sounds like your cup of tea (sounds like fun to us), click through to see when the White Arrows tour is coming to your town. Get ready to dance.
Austin, Texas hails itself as the live music capital of the world, so how could we not bring the Hurley Rocks You Back to School to its fabled music halls? Last Saturday Surfer Blood, local band Shivery Shakes (which isn't just super fun to say, but also super fun to see play), hosts Rosie O'Laskey and Mike Escamilla rocked Stubbs BBQ in Austin for a fun night of boot-scoot-boogeying with a decidedly indie twist. Keep reading for more photos from the show!
Here's one more banger from I Am The Avalanche, performed right here in the Hurley music studio.
We're lucky in that we call the members of The Breakdowns our friends. But you and your ear buds can too, thanks to this free download of their new EP, Rock n Roll Rebel Love, recorded here in the Hurley studios. Download it here.
