The 2011 US Open of Surfing, presented by Nike, Hurley and Converse wrapped up yesterday. With 1 million people in attendance throughout the week, free live music featuring MGMT, Jimmy Eat World and others, a Walk the Walk National Championship, and the world's best surfers battling it out in great HB surf, it's pretty clear that 2011 US Open of Surfing will go down in the history books as the greatest action sports event of all time -- that is until we make it even better next year. Yadin further improves his ASP World Tour qualification hopes by finishing runner-up to the 10x champ, Kelly Slater, yesterday afternoon. Also improving his ASP World Tour qualification campaign was Brazilian Miguel Pupo. Pupo's finish in the Round of 24 earned him enough points to now be sitting a few spots inside the World Tour's top 32 bubble. Click into the story for details. Today is the final day of the US Open of Surfing, and we're not quite sure how we feel about it. Relieved, maybe? Sad? Nostalgic? We can't decide just yet. At least there are always fabulously dressed ladies to look at while we figure out our feelings. Yesterday we ran into UK fashion blogger, Susie Lau (check out here site, 'Style Bubble' here), and just about died. And we have one more day of beachfront style! So in the meantime while we're distinguishing our emotions, we'll just keep our eyes on the cute outfits.
A full week into the US Open of Surfing, and these gals are still bringing their A-game (so is Hurley team rider, Yadin Nicol, by the way. In the moments we haven't been too busy crushing on the man, we've been watching him sail right into the quarter finals). On the fashion front, we've been taking a few more notes. 1.) We need at least three more pairs of Chuck Taylors in our wardrobe, 2). flip flops aren't nearly as bad as we thought, and 3). cross-body bags are an accessory staple. Thanks for the tips, gals. Wonder what we'll learn on the last day...
And the ladies keep on rollin' up in style...we'll never get sick of this. We've officially taken note that cut-off shorts are the bottoms of choice. If you don't have a pair, we suggest you grab some here. Keep watching for more street style from the US Open of Surfing. And make sure to tune in to the Hurley Girls blog tomorrow--we'll being posting a special set of style pics from the Lost Atlas premiere party!
Our friends Jonno Durrant and Stefan Hunt -- who you might recognize from Surfing 50 States -- just returned from India, where they were filming for their new TV series. Come welcome them home Thursday, August 4th in NY. There will be live music, photo auctions, cheap drinks, a surfboard raffle, and some sneaks peaks from Surfing 28 States: India. 100% of profits from the night will go to www.ourhomecharity.org -- an awesome orphanage the guys hung out with in Kerala, India, where they taught kids to surf. Check out the event Facebook page and RSVP here.
Okay ladies, you gotta stop. You're making us look bad. No seriously, cut it out. Just kidding we love it. Keep up with the fabulous dressing...and don't be too suprised if we try to steal the clothes right off your back. We still have six more days at the US Open of Surfing--maybe we'll bump into you with our camera??
Bob just won his third gold medal in Skateboarding Big Air -- his first since 2008. In case you were busy watching Shark Week, or you were with us down at the US Open, we've got a highlight video from Bob's golden evening. Enjoy! Video: Bruno Passos
Cuties from all over headed down to Huntington Beach yesterday for the first day of the US Open of Surfing. Much to our delight, they brought their fashion savvy with them. You know a girl's got it goin' on when she can rock a bikini as part of a perfectly-styled outfit. Keep up the good work, gals. You're making our day. And look out for Hurley Girls snapping street style photos every day this week–can't wait to see what else ya got!
The Nike US Open of Surfing 2011 has officially commenced! The first heat is currently underway, athletes are checking in, people from all over are making their way to the sand, the pier is slowly filling up, and the photogs have mounted their gargantuan cameras. Our first mission: snagging our US Open tees and tanks to rock at the event this week...and probably twice a week for the next several months afterward. Get yours at the US Open of Surfing online store--and enjoy these cool shots our friends over at HSS took in their US Open gear.
