The 6th Annual Grind For Life Benefit & Awards Ceremony, presented by PACSUN, was held Nov. 15th at the Cocoa Beach Skatepark in Cocoa Beach, Florida. This year we had Andy Macdonald, Benji Galloway, Tim Johnson, Buck Smith, AJ Kohn & others pros demo-ing for the crowd. Andy Mac even called out GFL founder, Mike Rogers, to skate in the demo and they did some great doubles runs. Everybody was pulling unreal tricks and really pleasing the crowd.  We had a great turnout & about 500 people come through, lots of kids and families. We had raffles, a silent auction and a punk rock band, known as FA, rocked the park. We raised $4300 at the event to help people with cancer. GFL helps people who have to travel long distances for cancer treatment. Thank you Hurley for making this event such a great success!

Aussie/Japanese team rider Yuta Tanaka has been ripping as of late, with his ever evolving modesty, and of course on his board. I asked for some holiday snaps from a recent trip to Perth... and all I got was this. Thanks Yuta.

This years event blew the doors off any event, any other company has ever done. Music was supplied by Thee Corman and SFD. People were coming from all places to see what was going on and show off their scooters.

Scott Senior was the man behind the BBQ all day and those were some killer burgers. It was a solid day full of slash grinds and blue skies.

For anybody that didn't make it out, there will always be next year. So get off your a$$ and get your knees in the breeze.

Awards:

Best bike: Harpoon

Best Style: Dave : aka purple rain

Best Facial Hair: Nick from Thee Corman

Best Trick: Trevor Luca

Mad Max Bike Award: dirty dog Jimmy Virgillio

Sketchy Bike Award: Troy Elmore

Best Slam: Tom Death

Thanx to all the sponsors for all the love.

Hurley, Raen, Dice, Brixton, Jokers, and Captain Fin

While on a recent filming trip to Japan Steve Nesser dropped by the Hurley Japan offices in Tokyo for a quick visit with our international partners. Steve hung out with some of the good folks behind their operation and checked out some of the new designs and styles that Hurley Japan has been working on this year. Steve also skated around the city with a couple of the Hurley Japan team riders and had a good time skating and filming at some of the amazing spots that Tokyo has to offer. With the city’s very dense population it can be crazy just getting around from spot to spot but none the less Japan is an amazing city for skating with some of the best architecture and natural terrain the world has to offer. Keep on the lookout for Hurley’s new feature length skate video “Route 999” premiering this fall right here at Hurley.com

Friday night was The Art of Skate- (a skate deck art show) held at Lunasea in Virginia Beach. We pulled in 30 of the areas most talented artists to collaborate one-of-a-kind skateboard decks that would auction off Friday night for a local charity. The word was spread and the venue was packed. The auctioned ended with mobs of people shoving and pushing to secure their spot on the desired decks.  Every deck found a home and we raised over $1500 for the local skate park.  All in all it was a huge success and round 2 will be in the works soon. . .

Special thanks to DJ JC/DC for killing it on the turn tables and Jon Hechtkopf for capturing the night.

Hey Everyone,

Nilton Neves is back! After seven months of being out from surgery his foot is now about 85%. That's enough to get back on a board and keep shredding. Watch the video of Nilton "cruising around and having fun".
