The waves were pumping for the event in Oceanside this weekend. Youngster Jake Marshall from Encinitas was blowing minds, surfing well beyond his years. Jake put everyone in the combination situation in the final. Jake was making the good, but tough, conditions look easy as he was teeing off on the left hand walls on his backside. Jake won the Mini-groms division, making it four in a row! His younger brother Nicolas also made the final and came in 5th place while the youngest Marshall, Conner, sat and cheered from the beach with Mom and Dad. Last weeks winner in the Open Men's division, Vance Smith, was looking to make it two in a row, but fellow HB local Christian Saenz, last weeks runner-up, had his own agenda in mind. Christian and Vance battled it out in the final going back a forth, but in the end, Saenz would take this one leaving Vance with 2nd place. Not bad for the two goofy-footers though. Back to back finals and 1st and 2nd in both events! Posted by Brandon Guilmette at 8:30 PM

The boys had event on maui so we took the super ferry. What a deal, 3 people and a car round trip under $500. Luke and Makai went on the early morning ferry while Nohorai, Gabi and myself took the afternoon because Nohorai was in school. Gotta stay in school. While waiting in line for the ferry the Moniz Ohana pulled up. It was there first trip on the ferry as well. The ferry is great the views are beautiful. We went around the south side of molokai the up the channel to Kahalui Harbor. We got in just as it was getting dark. That first night we stayed at Kai Barger's house. Cool little set up he has. Friday morning we drove to Lahaina. Surf was small but forecasted to get bigger. It only got a few inches bigger by Sunday but it was great for the kids. Luke place 5th in Open Jrs. While Makai got a 6th in Explorer Boys. While in Lahaina I took the boys to the Hurley store to shake some babies and kiss some hands. The boys really like the store cuase it had product they had never seen they even made wish list. The last shot is the north side of Molokai. So beautiful.

Hurley riders absolutely dominated this year’s NSSA Eastern Championships held at Sebastian Inlet FL. Between Evan Geiselman and Michael Dunphy six titles were claimed! Evan won Open Juniors, Explorer Boys, and the Airshow. Dunphy won Explorer Juniors, Explorer Mens, and the coveted Opens Mens division. Not to mention Oliver Kurtz making three finals appearances and eleven year old Puerto Rico super-grom Mauricio Diaz turning heads all week and placing in two finals.
On behalf of the entire Hurley family, congratulations to Michael Dunphy, Evan Geiselman, and the rest of the East Coast team for a monumental day of competitive surfing! Posted by Brandon Guilmette at 7:45 PM

I just got back from a sunny weekend at Church Beach in San Clemente for the NSSA State Champs. The waves were super fun and all of the kids had a great time. There was some impressive surfing going on by the girls and the guys. Out of 15 High School HBHS came out on top. I couldn't be more proud of my former high school. I've been helping out Coach Verdone for the past few years and this year we really saw some results. The team pulled it together and blew up heat after heat. Every school had a strong showing and it made us realize that we have some competition for Nationals in June...

The season opener for the NSSA Sothwest Open was held this weekend at Brookhurst St. in HB and the waves were firing!
The ocean stayed relatively calm most of the day throughout the event and occasionally had a couple over-head peaks that were draining! I watched a couple kids take some pretty gnarly donuts, but then I watched a couple get shacked out of their brain and blown out! Such a fun day for the first event. Ruling the Open Boys division all weekend and coming up with the win was Hurley team rider, Parker Coffin. Parker's older brother Conner had a good showing in the Junior's division and came in fourth in the finals. Newport local, Andrew Doheny, made double finals and won the Junior's and got fourth in the Men's. The Men's was won by Dane Zaun, who launched his patented frontside air reverse on a sick double up followed by a little floater to nail down a solid 7.0 score in the final and clenched the first event of the season. Great surfing and congrats to the winners! This season is going to get pretty gnarly by the looks of it... Posted by Brandon Guilmette at 12:50 AM

So far this season in the NSSA there have been four contests in the West Coast region. 3 Goldcoast Explorers and 1 Southwest Explorer. Somehow, Dill has managed to chalk up 8 straight victories...if that's not amazing then I don't know what is ladies and gentlemen.
This kid is completely on fire and is surfing well beyond his years. Dillon isn't the only one who's been winning, the Coffin brothers have been trading off wins in the Boy's division and Conner stepped up into the Juniors and came 2nd to Dillon. Parker was dominating the Menehune division as well. Sam McGee has been ripping and has been in the finals a couple times this season so far also. The first Southwest Open is this coming weekend in HB...if you can't get to Lowers for the Boost Mobile finals then come watch the Hurley team regulate the competition at the pier!!
